REALI3SE

Bridging Igneous Petrology and Machine Learning through Intersectoral, Interdisciplinary, and Intercontinental Staff Exchanges

START DATE: 1 November 2026 – END DATE: 31 October 2030

Building on the recently approved MSCA-DN REALISE, the REALI3SE MSCA Staff Exchange brings together leading experts in igneous petrology, volcanology, ore geology, geochemistry, physics, and data science to bridge Earth sciences with AI/ML. The project expands the scope of REALISE by including new intercontinental partners from Colombia, Argentina, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and South Africa, strengthening global collaboration and ensuring a broad diversity of geological settings and methodological expertise. The consortium unites academic and non-academic organisations, combining access to advanced analytical and experimental laboratories, large-scale research infrastructures, and computational resources. Through a structured programme founded on the 3 MSCA-SE pillars of intersectoral, interdisciplinary, and international staff exchanges, REALI3SE will:

  • Advance petrologic multimodal data acquisition, fusion, and modelling, providing new research tools with potential commercial exploitation (WP1),
  • Develop new physics-informed ML and generative AI for geoscience applications, to support researchers, stakeholders, and decision makers (WP2, WP3),
  • Extend petrologic and volcanological studies that are planned in the REALISE doctoral network involving intercontinental partners, fostering new collaborations and knowledge transfer (WP4),
  • Foster training and knowledge exchange across sectors and continents (WP5), and
  • Strengthen citizen science and outreach to ensure societal impact (WP6).
